Broadcasters mourn loss of Ray Moran

Pioneer Texas broadcaster Ray Moran passed away on February 11. He was 82.

Moran was the founder of Ramar Communications with stations in West Texas and New Mexico. He launched the company with independent channel 34 in Lubbock in 1981. The station became a charter member of the FOX network in 1986.

Ramar Communications currently has 16 TV and Radio stations in Texas, New Mexico and Colorado.

Moran was a longtime supporter of Texas Tech University’s College of Media and Communications.  He was inducted into the TTU COMC Hall of Fame in 1993. He chaired the COMC Foundation Committee from 1987 to 1992 and served on the Mass Communications Advisory Council.

Funeral services are set for 2 pm on Thursday, Feb. 15 at Lakeridge Chapel and Memorial Designers.
