
Broadcasters mourn loss of Pryor
posted on 8.30.2011Pioneer Texas broadcaster Cactus Pryor died today. He was 88.
Cactus Pryor had been prominent in Texas broadcasting and entertainment since 1944.
He went to work for Lady Bird Johnson?s radio station and with short absences for jobs in Houston, Alice and Corpus Christi, remained in broadcasting until his death.
Pryor was program manager of Austin?s first and, for 10 years, only television station, KTBC-TV.
He remained a constant in Austin television until 1982. In total, his broadcasting career spanned more than 60 years.
TAB named him Pioneer Broadcaster of the Year in 1994.
