Broadcasters mourn loss of Perryman

Pioneer Texas Broadcaster Tom Perryman passed away on Jan. 11. He was 90.

Perryman started his radio career in the 1940s at KEBE Jacksonville. As a DJ at KSIJ Gladewater, he helped promote the careers of many country music artists, including Elvis Presley.

He was the fist regular DJ with an all night country radio show at WSM Nashville. He also was the longtime owner of KGRI-AM-FM Henderson, one of the first full-time country stations in America.

Perryman was inducted into the Country Music DJ Hall of Fame, the Texas Country Music DJ Hall of Fame and the Western Swing Music Hall of Fame.

TAB presented Perryman with the prestigious Pioneer of the Year Award in 2013.
