Broadcasters mourn loss of Fritz
posted on 11.02.2016Pioneer Texas Broadcaster Norbert Fritz passed away October 31 at the age of 95.
Fritz, the patriarch of three generations of broadcasters, got his start in the industry as a radar engineer in WWII.
Educated by the Army Air Core at the University of Texas at Austin, he would go on to earn seven bronze stars during the War in the Pacific.
He began his Texas radio career at KCTI 1450 Gonzales. He and his late wife, Alene, would go on to own or operate KNAF-AM-FM, KMBS-FM, KFAN-FM, KONO-AM-FM and KEEP-FM. In the late 1960s, he brought the first high powered FM to the Hill Country.
In addition to being a broadcaster, he was a Pioneer in cable television and co-founder of the Fredericksburg Cable Corp.
