AM Radio Bill Nears Two-Thirds Support in Congress

The AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act, which Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is leading in the U.S. Senate, continues gaining momentum in Congress with nearly two-thirds of the House now on board as co-sponsors, including 20 of 38 Texans, 19 of whom are listed HERE.

Reps. Brian Babin, R-Woodville, Sylvia Garcia, D-Houston, and Vicente Gonzalez, D-Edinburg, are the latest to sign on to the measure intended to ensure that automakers preserve AM Radio reception in new vehicles.

The measure is a response to plans announced two years ago by a handful of electric vehicle manufacturers to discontinue the offering.  The automakers claimed they couldn’t resolve interference created by the EV motors despite competitors successfully deploying the technology.

Of those Texas members of Congress who co-sponsored the measure in 2024, only Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Amarillo, has not yet renewed his support. His district stretches from Amarillo to Wichita Falls and then Denton.

TAB is working closely with the NAB to ramp up support among lawmakers and secure committee and floor votes once Congress returns from its summer recess so the bill can advance to the White House for final enactment.

The record labels are pushing to attach their ill-advised measure enacting a Performance Tax on Radio stations to the AM Radio bill but have gained little traction for their position.
