Description: This 90-minute briefing will review the laws benefitting Texas newsrooms that the Texas Association of Broadcasters has championed in recent sessions of the Texas Legislature.  These include the 2009 Free Flow of Information Act (Texas reporter shield law); the 2011 anti-SLAPP litigation law; the Texas interlocutory appeal; and the most recent addition to the Texas newsroom legal toolbox, the 2013 Defamation Mitigation Act.  

Attorney Laura Prather of TAB Associate Member law firm Haynes and Boone LLP drafted three of the four pieces of legislation and represented TAB and other groups in legislative negotiations on bill language.  Prather is a longtime member of TAB’s Newsroom Legislative Committee.
