Power Shift Project: Power to the Interns
The Newseum’s Power Shift Project — a major new initiative on behalf of women in the news industry — launches the first in a series of live interactive training sessions with a program focusing on the youngest and often most vulnerable in media.
“Power to the Interns: Strengthening Intern Preparation in a #MeToo World” will contain practical information about what educators and employers should know — and do — to ensure workplace integrity for students.
Jill Geisler, who is Loyola University Chicago’s Bill Plante Chair in Leadership and Media Integrity, will moderate three half-hour, interactive programs that will be live streamed and archived and made available for educators, employers and students to use.
Participants include:
- Lynne Adrine, director of the D.C. graduate program, broadcast and digital journalism, Syracuse University, S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communication
- Inya Baiye, Title IX coordinator, University of North Texas
- James Dickinson, assistant vice president for career services, Loyola University Maryland
- Amy Eisman, director of the journalism division, American University School of Communication
- Tracy Everbach, associate professor and chair of women’s faculty network, Mayborn School of Journalism, University of North Texas
- Tracy Grant, managing editor, The Washington Post
- Brent Jones, assistant managing editor for training and outreach, The Wall Street Journal
- Maya Raghu, director of workplace equality and senior counsel, National Women’s Law Center
- Lisa Schnall, senior attorney advisor, Office of Legal Counsel, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
- Traci Schweikert, vice president of human resources, Politico
The Newseum Institute, the programs partner of the Newseum, is committed to promoting workplace integrity, defined as eliminating sexual harassment and creating opportunities for all. This is the goal of the Power Shift Project, an outgrowth of the Power Shift Summit that was held at the Newseum on Jan. 9, 2018. The project helps journalists and newsroom leaders implement the solutions identified at the summit.
