Title: Everything You Wanted (or Needed) to Know about Music Licensing, But Were Afraid to Ask
Date: Wednesday, March 25, 2015
Time: 2-3:30 pm CENTRAL (3-4:30 pm EASTERN)
Description: Do you know the difference between a “musical work” and a “sound recording?"
How about the differences between “mechanical reproduction,” “synchronization” and “performance?”
Who to contact when you want to include music in a podcast or a digital download or an ad?
These are among the many important, but occasionally misunderstood, features of the complicated terrain of copyright law, a terrain that broadcasters must navigate on a daily basis.
Kevin Goldberg of TAB Associate Member Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth, PLC, will present an overview of music licensing issues broadcasters face every day, including: the nature of the various copyright interests that need to be considered; the various permissions that must be obtained for common broadcast uses of copyrighted music; who to contact to “clear” the necessary rights; the various processes, and likely costs, of rights clearance.
In addition, Kevin will share the latest information about possible developments on Capitol Hill, in the Executive Branch and in the courts that could affect copyright law in coming years.
