Topic: Making the Right Call: The Principles of Journalism and How to Use Them
Date/Time: Wed., Oct. 26 | 11 AM CENTRAL
Speaker: Kevin Benz
Speed is the enemy of journalistic skepticism — and yet we must move so fast.
Your gut will lie to you — you can't "feel" your way through a story.
Our audience expects us to live up to the highest ideals of fairness and objectivity.
Great journalism requires thoughtful reflection and reasoned news-gathering.
This interactive session will use real examples and exercises meant to get attendees thinking and reflecting more deeply about how they gather news.
They will be reminded of the four principles of journalism as created by the Poynter Institute’s Bob Steele, and get a very simple set of questions to ask in order to hold themselves accountable.
