Position/Title: Sound Designer

KDAF-TV/CW33 needs a sound designer for NewsFix, its sound intensive newscast that focuses on wide screen sound.  NewsFix is a unique, anchorless format that’s been in Houston since 2011 and has been on the air in Dallas since 2014. 

The Sound Designer position requires a strong sense of music, sound design skills, control audio levels and consistency in order to enforce the station’s audible brand.  This role will primarily be responsible for creating, coordinating and maintaining sound design for on air packages airing on NewsFix and online.  This person is also responsible for maintaining the sound library for NewsFix.

Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience required
2+ years experience working in Pro Tools or equivalent audio software
Knowledge of Pro Tools plug ins, Audacity, iTunes, musicianship, and sound tech a plus
Audio board experience also required
Must be able to edit using Final Cut 7 or equivalent NLE
Must have the ability to work in a rapid, fast-paced environment
Must have experience with Mac OS
Must be able to work independently
Ability to work flexible schedule – nights, weekends, holidays

Work with and support NewsFix to enhance sound and music in multiple packages daily
Work cross-functionally with internal departments to fulfill station’s sound needs as needed
Demonstrate sense of urgency as the newscasts approach deadline
Work with Manager of News Operations to maintain equipment and software needs
Perform other duties as assigned
