Job Description

Position Summary:

KXLN is seeking a creative journalist who can work across all of our dynamic platforms, who is able and willing to engage our viewers and online users on a daily basis. A journalist who is highly skilled, self-starter who is able to produce, shoot and edit stories under deadline pressure. Responsible for presenting accurate, balanced news stories for the station’s morning newscasts. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: reporting for live newscasts, station broadcasts and special programs as assigned, news writing, daily newsgathering and producing, reporting and appearances at community and station events in a fast-paced, extremely competitive market.

Job Responsibilities:
Produce and report news stories using broadcasting equipment and newsroom computer systems
Research, investigate, write, produce and report general news or special news assignments as assigned – recorded and/or live from the field (outdoors)
Write and proofread copy for accuracy prior to going on air
Must be able to meet strict production deadlines to produce reports and present new reports in newscasts, news updates, special news broadcasts and live breaking-news reports as assigned
Establish a good working relationship with newscast producers and newsroom personnel to ensure well-paced, accurate and informative news reports and broadcasts
Attend and participate in off-site company-sponsored and community events as assigned by station management
Travel out-of-town or abroad to report for station, network or other company broadcasts, websites and publications as assigned
Work flexible hours, including holidays, weekends and evenings
Must have and maintain a good driving record
Other duties as deemed necessary

Required Skills & Experience:
Effective news writing ability for all platforms
Experience shooting, editing and producing news stories
Story telling ability
Knowledge of News gathering equipment and computers
Strong organization and motivational skills
Must be able to perform well under pressure, manage breaking news situations, meet strict deadlines, and respond quickly to changes
Must be highly motivated, aggressive, and results-oriented
Ability to use computer database to research statistics and facts
Flexibility to work any assigned shift, including evening and weekends
Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to identify problems and develop solutions
Candidate must have strong journalistic standards and ethics
Minimum of three years’ experience reporting in television news with an emphasis on “live” studio and “in-the-field” reporting in a medium to large TV market
Must have experience in developing contacts, producing hard news stories, and reporting for live newscasts and breaking-news events
Live interviewing skills and accuracy are a must
Must be able to interpret and translate from English to accurate Spanish
Strong personal computer skills and knowledge of computer-based video recording equipment and editing principles is required
Excellent and grammatically accurate Spanish language skills – both written and oral - required. Bilingual - fluency in English and Spanish is required

Desired Skills & Experience:
A college degree in Journalism, Radio/Television or related field from an accredited University

Physical Requirements: Must be able to pick up at least 20 pounds

Eligibility Requirements:
Driving eligibility will be confirmed
Employment/education will be verified
Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States
