CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt, part time

SUMMARY: Texas Public Radio is a mission-driven, award-winning, multimedia organization serving a weekly broadcast audience of more than 200,000 across a wide expanse of the state, and a fast-growing digital audience around the country. We are part of The Texas Newsroom, a statewide collaborative with NPR that allows us to provide even richer content and programming.

Texas Public Radio is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable board operator for our daily live and local talk show, The Source. Must be passionate about local news and thrive in a fast-paced newsroom.


Daily operation of sound board during live shows, including all necessary pre-show set up (computer/phone system and microphone checks, pre-loading audio clips).

Assistance cutting audio clips and listener voicemails, uploading them, and ensuring they’re in the system for use in live shows.


Advance testing of guests’ connections and helping to facilitate those connections immediately prior to and during their live interviews.

Edit, cut and write material for newscast content. 

Edit the show's audio for rebroadcast and podcast versions. 

Edit, compile and maintain the show's audio archive. 

Be in constant communications with the technology and operations team about changes in show format, technical needs, special broadcast episodes, and technical improvement opportunities.


Board operating experience for live radio.

A passion for the mission of public radio.

Demonstrated professionalism and personal relationship skills, including the ability to work well with other team members.

Exceptional organizational and time management skills, including the ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Experience using audio editing software and equipment to produce content for broadcast.

Technologically versatile with willingness to expand skills. Multi-media skills, including experience producing or editing digital media, are desirable.

Self-motivated, with a “willing spirit” and the ability to work efficiently with limited direct supervision.

Able to work extended hours as needed, sometimes on short notice.

Spanish/English bilingual language skills desired.
