One of the most compelling new visual aspects of NextGenTV is high dynamic range (HDR) video, where the images are strikingly more realistic compared to today’s TV viewing experience.
This session will give an overview of HDR video, explaining what it is and the major formats standardized today, taking out all the mystery for both tech and non-tech attendees alike. It then will dive into more detail and, in particular, describe SL-HDR1, the HDR transmission method that Sinclair is currently OTA broadcasting in ATSC 3.0 in over 30 markets.
SL-HDR1 is a single stream of bandwidth efficient, backward-compatible video that is decodable by both legacy and new HDR-capable devices.
