Scholarships
Texas broadcasters founded the Texas Broadcast Education Foundation in 1973 to:
- fund scholarships for promising students at Texas colleges and universities
- ensure the development of qualified professionals for the industry
- foster a stronger relationship between higher education and broadcasters
- promote a greater understanding of ethics and societal responsibility
TBEF is a 501(c) (3) charitable corporation and contributions to the Foundation are considered tax deductible for income tax purposes.
TBEF annually provides eight $2,000 scholarships to Texas students.
Each applicant must:
- be a current TAB Student Member and/or currently attend a TABE Member School
- maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 point scale)
- submit a complete application by the deadline

- Sophomore at Texas State University
- Major in Mass Communication/Journalism
- Intern at KXTN-FM San Antonio
William Barnett
TBEF Scholarship
- Sophomore at Amarillo College
- Working towards Mass Communications (A.S)
- Production Assistant at KAMR-TV and Board Op. at KPUR-AM, both Amarillo
- Board members serve three year terms
- Terms are staggered so three directors are up for election annually
- Elections are held during the annual TBEF membership meeting
- The annual meeting is typically held in July at the TAB Building in Austin
- Members may participate in person, by conference call or by proxy
