Supreme Court allows corporate spending on federal elections

The US Supreme Court this month ruled that corporations and unions may spend freely on their own ads related to federal election campaigns.

The action overturns a 20-year-old ruling that prohibited such spending, as well as part of the landmark McCain-Feingold campaign finance bill that barred unions and corporations from paying for issue ads in the final days of election campaigns.
