Dewhurst/Cruz debate (Belo)

WFAA-TV Dallas-Fort Worth, as well as the other Texas Belo Corp. stations KHOU-TV in Houston, KENS-TV in San Antonio and KVUE-TV in Austin, and Texas Cable News (TXCN), are set to broadcast a debate featuring GOP U.S. Senate candidates Governor David Dewhurst and former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz.

Texas voters will decide between Dewhurst and Cruz as the state’s GOP nominee for the U.S. Senate in a run-off election on July 31.

The one-hour roundtable style debate will originate from WFAA’s Victory Park television studio in Dallas, and will be broadcast live, statewide at on July 17 at 7 pm CDT.

The GOP Senate debate will also be streamed live on the television station’s Web sites, as well as on DallasNews.com, the Web site of The Dallas Morning News. WFAA news anchor John McCaa will serve as host, and panelists will include WFAA news reporter Brad Watson, and political reporter Gromer Jeffers Jr. of The Dallas Morning News.

Watson hosts the station’s Sunday program, “Inside Texas Politics,” on which Jeffers is a weekly contributor.

The broadcast will be available in English to all television stations across Texas outside of Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio and Austin, and in Spanish to television stations in all markets.

PBS stations in Belo markets may air the debate on a tape-delayed basis. 

Additionally, all radio stations across Texas will be given the opportunity to air the debate.
